HAMILTON >> Hamilton school board President Anthony “Tony” Celentano on Wednesday night suggested the Board of Education may eventually reinstitute its former policy of videotaping and broadcasting school board meetings in full.

“I fully support the taping and broadcasting of the entire session,” school board candidate Jessica Young said at the event. “I think it is important to be transparent. It is not possible for every parent to get there.”

Hamilton Township school board wants public input on superintendent search

HAMILTON >> The Hamilton Township Board of Education has “an excellent plan” to hire the school district’s next permanent superintendent, according to former New Jersey education commissioner Dr. William Librera.

If new members are elected to the school board this November, the new board members upon being sworn in next January would have the right to demand a full board roll-call vote for appointing a new superintendent, even if the previous board had already decided on a final candidate, Librera said.

One of the three challengers running for school board this year is Jessica Young, who works as an elementary school counselor in the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District.

Young said Hamilton’s next superintendent of schools “needs to understand the unique challenges the district faces. The Hamilton Township School District needs someone who has an understanding that working here is a labor of love, one in which will take time and commitment to the process and will require transparency,” she said in a recent email.

“The board needs to continue its efforts to be inclusive and to communicate the process of choosing a superintendent to the families, students and educators of the district,” said Young, a longtime Hamilton Township resident and mother of three. Her oldest child is enrolled as an incoming first-grader at Sayen Elementary in the Hamilton public schools system.
